He'd even come on aways since the Halcion days of Sector 1. Didn't even know what the hell he was doing when he first came on-board. It went on like this until they came to Schultz. "A little lazy, but he's a demon at the two-card pick-up," said Carthy. "That new weapons guy is alright by me," Carter offered.

Over quieter moments when the original 3 would get together for drinks in the O2 bay, they'd discuss the new recruits. If this was to be his job, he was going to be the best mechanic in the whole fleet. "Well, damn them!" Schultz kicked his shit into a higher gear and put his all into those engines. It was a kick in the teeth that he was sure the JCs had intended. Manning the guns, and seeing to the shields all the while volleys were being traded. They were given the excitement that Schultz had long dreamed of while working his way up through the Federation. Other crew members eventually joined, though their reception was far warmer. Relegated to engines at the back of the ship, the others teased him about opening the airlocks and considered him good for nothing. Needless to say, when 'Schultz' became a crewmember, the rest didn't take particularly kindly to him. In what was essentially my first playthrough, my team consisted of J Carthy, J Coffee and J Carter. Needs more races, like one which doesn't need to breathe to survive. If you're quick on the draw and have a fully-upgraded teleporter, you can beam a rockman over to an oxygenless ship and beam him back before he asphyxiates.Įven more cruel, if you have the Healing Burst weapon, you can keep your crew alive but slowly suffocating indefinitely. May his sacrifice be a lesson to all captains looking to transport crew onto oxygen-less ships. In desperation, I beamed Ensign Ricky aboard to disable its weapon systems.ĭon't do that. I was in a brutal fight against an AI-controlled ship. Long live shield specialist Kessler, engineer Bodega, space pilot Souls, and our beloved chief weapons officer/mercenary Emma, who we picked up along the said: Then I got unceremoniously taken out by a lucky blast from a standard rebel ship while my hull was not at its best. Spent quite some time repairing systems and healing after that. With all weapons down, and taking constant fire from the enemy, I slowly managed to extinguish fires and repair the weapons systems just before they were able to bring shields back online, dealing the finishing blow. Made it to what I believe was the second to last system without much incident, besides that one time I had almost the whole crew furiously trying to repair the doors in order to vent multiple ship fires, with one boxed in fighting them manually from the bridge. It helps to have an active imagination, but this game sure does construct some amazing overall stories, even if the system-to-system events get a little repetitive. The final stage of the final boss was also crazy with fires breaking out everywhere and me trying to rapidly bring down his shields and keep all the systems up and running, but nothing tops my no-name repair guy watching his captain die and then taking over as pilot against the Rebel Flagship. I had to alternate crews going in there to try to fight the drone and repair, and finally my repair guy is pressed into piloting duties and leads us to victory. I tried to send my repair and Mantis crew to help him, but before I could react he was dead. Until in the final battle an anti-personnel drone lands on my captain and tears through the hull in my piloting section. As close to a perfect ship as I could ask for. Four weapons that could be powered if I knocked down my engine, four bubble shield, two power cloak, drones for defense and attack, and some augments for reducing shield and weapon recharge time.

Full crew, fully trained at their positions, a designated repair Engi and two Mantis crawlers to deal with any intruders.

My one time beating the game was fairly awesome - the last boss is still a giant bitch that's an enormous rise in difficulty / change in tactics compared to the other enemies, but if you're well-equipped enough to take him on it makes for some epic battles.
